Three-Day Quote Challenge – Day One

Welcome to Day One of my Quote Challenge! I want to sincerely thank the prolific, creative and talented Lizardin Bain (Unoriginal Love Notes) for nominating me for the quote challenge. Please do check out her blog!!

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for three consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Share why this quote appeals so much to you.
  4. Nominate 3 different bloggers for each day.

I actually love quotes – one of my favourite bosses gave me free reign over an entire bulletin board in an adult education centre for several years and I used to fill it with inspirational quotes – which I updated weekly – for our adult students. Many were second-language students and I often saw them looking up the meaning of some of the words, which made me very happy. It didn’t matter to me whether they agreed with my choices, but I do hope some of the quotes prompted conversation.

I have noticed that many people who take on this challenge do so by theme, so I have opted to choose lyrics from songs that have been particularly meaningful to me.

My first quote is from a song by Hozier (Take Me to Church):

“That’s a fine-looking high horse.”

This quote took my breath away the very first time I heard it. And I love the song; love its message of acceptance no matter what your sexual orientation. It leaves me in awe how, in just a few words, Hozier so sardonically puts in their place all those who are judgemental out of a feeling of superiority and control. It is the sort of phrase I would like to be able to say at the right moment, but alas, my ‘right moment’ always comes and goes: I rarely think of the perfect thing to say until I am all alone, at 3:00 in the morning…

Please check out the bloggers I am nominating. I know that some really like doing these challenges and some do not, so please – to those I am nominating, feel absolutely no pressure should you want to decline. That said, I really enjoy these writers and hope you will check them out…

I write what I feel. And I rarely know exactly what I feel until I write. I have lived long enough to have known many joys and many sorrows. I have made many mistakes; I have forgiven myself for a few… I have learned that there are lessons in every step of this journey, if we only take the time to pay attention… I hope you will feel free to pick and choose the stories that resonate for you…
