Three-Day Quote Challenge – Day Two

neil-young-free-archivesWelcome to Day Two of my Quote Challenge! I want to sincerely thank the prolific, creative and talented Lizardin Bain (Unoriginal Love Notes) for nominating me for the quote challenge. Please do check out her blog!!

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for three consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Share why this quote appeals so much to you.
  4. Nominate 3 different bloggers for each day.

I have opted to choose lyrics from songs that have been particularly meaningful to me. My second quote comes from a song written by a fellow Canadian; an absolute genius poet and musician: Neil Young (Old Man).

“It doesn’t mean that much to me,

to mean that much to you.”

I love this quote because it represents everything I wish I could be. I have been a people-pleaser my entire life, and these words have always resonated deeply with me. The older I get, the less I seem to need to please those around me, but it has nonetheless been a lifelong habit and therefore extremely hard to break. I am always in awe of the people who speak their truth and truly do not care what people think of them. I hope, before I die, that I will have arrived even closer to that reality.

I am nominating three bloggers who never seem afraid to say what’s on their mind. All three have me laughing almost every time I read their blogs but it is their honesty that keeps me coming back. As I said previously, this is supposed to be fun – if it is not enjoyable for those I have nominated, then by all means, feel free to take a pass – no hard feelings… That said, I really enjoy these bloggers and sincerely hope you will check them out…

I write what I feel. And I rarely know exactly what I feel until I write. I have lived long enough to have known many joys and many sorrows. I have made many mistakes; I have forgiven myself for a few… I have learned that there are lessons in every step of this journey, if we only take the time to pay attention… I hope you will feel free to pick and choose the stories that resonate for you…

    1. Holy CRAP. I checked out ‘Human Highway’. Absolutely AWESOME. I was SO not ready for them back in the day – I had not yet embraced my weirdness and was WAY not cool enough for the likes of Devo but I LOVE this now. I had no idea Neil Young could play like that. Thanks SO much for pointing me in that direction: you made my DAY!!!

      1. Okay, you have definitely mistaken me for someone cool. I missed so much great stuff the first time around (too busy listening to the Carpenters and dancing to disco music…I KNOW…🙄). I only started discovering the GOOD stuff when my kids were listening to it. Had to look up the Ramones – another great band I missed the first time. Yup, I like them (now) too 😊
