The 10 Questions from Tales from the Mind of Kristian:
- How did you decide on the name for your blog?
I named my blog after the poem: “Monday’s child is fair of face; Tuesday’s child is full of grace; Wednesday’s child is full of woe; Thursday’s child has far to go (…)” I was indeed born on a Wednesday and have always considered myself a true Wednesday’s child: I always carried a lot of melancholy, sadness and regret. The nice thing is that I thought I only had sad stories to tell: I can’t express what a joy it has been to discover that I have so many happy stories just bursting to get out. Since I started blogging earlier this year, that has come as a complete surprise to me…
- Are you a morning person or an evening person?
Oh, I am a night hawk! If I had the choice I would be up half the night and sleep half the day. Unfortunately, as the rest of my world does not really operate by the same rules, I make an attempt to live by their clock. This is always a challenge for me…
- If you could win a lifetime supply of something (not cash) what would it be?
In a previous post, I named gasoline or groceries. I almost said ‘books’ this time, but I buy most of my books out of old, musty-smelling second-hand shops and I would not want to forgo that pleasure for anything. So, I will stick with gas or groceries!
- What is your favourite genre of books to read?
I pretty much exclusively read fiction: reading has always been my ultimate escape and fiction does that for me. I really enjoy (well-researched) historical fiction and in my forties, I fell in love with the horror genre, especially Stephen King. I think this had something to do with facing (and overcoming) my fears, but I also think King is an awesome storyteller and writer.
- What weird food combination do you like?
Peanut butter and cheddar cheese sandwiches. Sorry – my tastes are pretty boring…
- What was your favourite cartoon as a kid?
Loony Toons and the Bugs-Bunny Road-Runner hour! So much of those old cartoons are still great.
- What would your funeral song be?
For my children (because I used to sing this to them when they were little): Sunshine on my Shoulders, by John Denver. For me (because it always makes me happy): Somewhere Over the Rainbow, the Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole version.
- Name a song you like from the year you were born.
Moon River, by Henry Mancini. I love the Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn version… The movie came out in 1962; the song made the top 100 in 1962.
- If you could attend a famous event in history which would it be?
I would be honoured beyond words to attend Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech…
- What Christmas present have you never received but wish you had?
Oh, a doll house!!! I always wanted one…
What Makes Me Passionate About Blog Posting
My whole life, I wanted to write ‘something’. My adult years were busy and tumultuous. In my work life, I was known as a compulsive note taker. I always volunteered to be the secretary at any meetings I attended. I earned my living writing grant proposals and eventually, organisational strategic plans and action plans. But there really wasn’t time for me to indulge in my dream of writing…’something’… The only exception: whenever I was in distress, I wrote all my deepest angst in journal after journal. After an unexpected burnout (adrenal exhaustion) I was forced to retire early. After several years quietly recuperating, I am overjoyed to finally be writing ‘something’. And I am grateful beyond words for the positive stories that keep bubbling to the surface. When I die and my poor children discover all those awful journals, I want them to know that it took me some time, but I found a great deal of happiness in my latter years.
10 Random Facts About Myself
- I feel a deep, spiritual and unexplainable affinity with trees. Walking in the woods restores me; energises me and leaves me in a state of great peace.
- I didn’t really learn to swim until I was 14 years old, but within two years of joining the local swim team I became a qualified life guard. I never actually got to work as a lifeguard, however: there were too many of us and not enough jobs to go around.
- My first job was flipping burgers and making ice-cream sundaes at the local Dairy Queen.
- The first movie I ever saw in a movie theatre was The Sound of Music. I must have been around 4 years old. I was hooked: I have been a movie buff ever since.
- The sound of geese arriving in the spring fills me with hope. The sound of geese heading south in the fall fills me with melancholy.
- The opening scene of The Lion King makes me cry. Every time…
- I hate being blamed for something I did not do. Even little, insignificant things. Makes me crazy…
- I have a very conservative look and demeanor but underneath I am rather esoteric and unconventional. As a result, I have always been drawn to the eccentric, peculiar nonconformists.
- I am not spontaneous. I like to have a plan. Interestingly, though, some of my best moments have been unplanned.
- I love to dance. I lose myself in music; I go somewhere else. It is the only time I am completely unselfconscious.
My Nominees:
Like Kristian, there are so many awards going around that often the people I want to nominate have already been nominated. Because the Liebster Award is for bloggers who would enjoy blogging about this award, this time, I am going to cheat and invite any fellow bloggers to feel free to participate. Have fun!
My Questions:
- How do you visualize the future in 50 years?
- Name one thing about you that drives the people you love around the bend.
- Chocolate or fruit salad?
- Dressed down or dressed up?
- Would you choose to live near a mountain, a lake, a forest, a desert or an ocean (and why)?
- Who is your favourite person, and why?
- If you had a choice of helping somebody or being helped, which would you prefer?
- Which of the five senses do you most depend on?
- If you could go back and relive one day all over again, which would it be?
- Preferred mode of travel: boat, train, car, plane or…? And why?

I enjoyed reading your aswers. It’s funny because I am generally a positive person but have written some dark and depressing tales. Writing is so therapeutic. I also LOVE trees. Can’t get enough of them. Fantastic.

I totally get you on number 7. Hate to be blamed for something I didn’t do even if it’s nothing major. Hahaha…It would get me so worked up. Have a great weekend and hope no blame is going around today! 😛

Congrats! Well deserved award. I enjoyed reading your answers. I even think we have much in common…being a night owl, love of trees, the feelings brought about by the comings and goings of the geese, preferring to have a plan rather than flying by the seat of my pants.
